FORMER ENGLAND STRIKER James Beattie has been hailed as a hero after he helped rescue two children and their mother from a damaged yacht yesterday.
Beattie answered the distressed woman’s cries for help after the yacht she was on collided with a ferry.
The 39-year-old former Everton and Southampton striker didn’t hesitate to help the family in Poole Harbour, Dorset, in the south of England.
Beattie, who won five international caps for England during his playing career, joined three other passersby in jumping over a barrier to the woman’s aid and helped bring the children to safety.
The mother of the children, who feared their yacht was in danger of sinking after the collision, was then helped to dry land.
The lines of the small boat had become entangled with the front of the ferry but luckily all parties avoided injury.
