Keane blasts ‘lazy’ Chelsea man for ‘going through the motions’ against Manchester United

Roy Keane has hit out at Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell for showing “laziness” in the build up to Manchester United’s equaliser on Saturday.

Casemiro’s stoppage-time header rescued a last-gasp point for the Red Devils in a match that United possibly deserved to win.

Chelsea had looked set to take all three points when Jorginho converted a 87th-minute penalty after Scott McTominay had brought down Armando Broja in the box.

But Casemiro’s effort saw the scoreline end level at 1-1 with Chelsea remaining unbeaten since Graham Potter took over from Thomas Tuchel last month.

Keane was critical of the Blues’ defending in the lead up to the late equaliser with the Man Utd legend picking out Chilwell for particular criticism.

“Chelsea were all over the place considering you’re looking at an experienced centre-half [Thiago Silva],” Keane told Sky Sports.

“They’re not quite set there and of course United are gambling throwing people forward it’s a great ball in.

“Chilwell, your typical full-back or wing-back, he’s just jumping for the sake of it. I don’t like that. He’s going through the motions. It’s an amazing header.

“When the ball comes in there’s situations like that in the game who wants to really head the ball. Chilwell did not want to head the ball, he went through the motions like a modern full-back.

“It’s just laziness, no desire and it’s an amazing header.”

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has insisted that the manner of the equaliser means it “feels like a defeat” for the Blues.

Loftus-Cheek told Chelsea’s official website: “It was scrappy, both teams weren’t clean on the ball. It was just one of those games but I thought we had it [the win], we were defending well and then to be honest I don’t know how Casemiro’s got the power on that header to send it up and down. It feels like a defeat.”

Loftus-Cheek added: “We had to win the duels, both teams went toe to toe like that and sometimes it is what happens in these games.

“There’s two sides to the game and you have to do both if you want to be a good team. We want to match any team that comes here and it was unlucky for us to concede in the last minute. But we’re not losing, we’re winning and we are drawing which is a good sign.

“We want to be solid as a team first, that’s the foundation going forward. You want to be good defensively and then on top of that have a freedom and a flow to go and score goals and create. That’s the next step.”
