Angers have this afternoon confirmed the sacking of manager Gérald Baticle, almost a month to the day since he was suspended and replaced on an interim basis by Abdel Bouhazama.
After an impressive start to last season – which included a resounding 3-0 win over Lyon, Le SCO’s form has taken a turn for the worse this past calendar year, with the team currently sitting rock bottom of Ligue 1.
The long-time Lyon assistant’s contract was running until the end of the 2024/25 season. Heading into the international break, the team were on a run of seven consecutive defeats, their last victory – one of two across the entire campaign – coming midway through September against Nice.
The western side return to action next Wednesday with a trip to Ajaccio, ahead of a second half of the season which could well see their struggles continue as Sofiane Boufal and Azzedine Ounahi look set to leave, in the wake of the pair’s performances at the World Cup with Morocco.
