15 arrested after Montpellier’s 4-2 defeat to Toulouse

Montpellier made the journey to Toulouse for their Ligue 1 fixtures on Sunday. The game had to be suspended for 15 minutes due to fan disorder in the away end. 

L’Équipe report that fifteen Montpellier supporters, including two minors, were arrested by the local police. Thirteen of them were even placed into custody following the incidents that led the police to throw tear gas at their end.

Fan disorder is nothing new in France, as the new season of the Ligue 1 has already witnessed several instances of the crowd being involved in all sorts of wrongdoings.

Due to the crisis at the away end on Sunday, the game had be to suspended for fifteen minutes. The suspension occurred when Montpellier were losing 4-1. On the back of the restart, the visitors scored one to narrow the deficit to two goals but could not mount a comeback. According to the reports, the authorities had previously marked the Occitanie derby as a high-risk fixture.
