Stuck Truck In Wine Country, Mudslide Prompts Anza Road Closure

TEMECULA, CA — Wine country traffic came to a halt Tuesday on a two-lane corridor just east of Temecula after an SUV became temporarily stuck in the mud, California Highway Patrol reported.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday mud flooded into the roadway from an embankment off Anza Road, just north of De Portola Road, according to CHP officials.

Officers arrived within minutes to find the SUV stuck in the thick mud that had washed onto the roadway during downpours.

“The water was two feet high, with a current,” according to officers at the scene.

A Good Samaritan driving a pickup truck was able to assist the stranded driver, pushing him out of the muck, the CHP said.

No injuries were reported from that incident, however, officers were concerned that the same thing might happen to other drivers.

Officers requested that the Riverside County Department of Transportation close a section of Anza due to the hazard.

As of 12:15 p.m. the closure was pending but not yet in force.
