MALIBU, CA — Malibu Bluffs Park will get a new, temporary food-service trailer as the city works to permanently replace the park’s beloved Snack Shack that’s stood empty since the Woolsey Fire.
The City Council on Monday voted unanimously on a series of measures surrounding food service at Bluffs Park. Officials aim to buy a food-service trailer for no more than $100,000 and set it up by May 15.
The city will also demolish the existing Snack Shack, which is nearly four-decades old. The decrepit structure has been tagged as inoperable since the 2018 Woolsey Fire, leading Malibu Little League to sell packaged concessions out of a tent.

City staff will also draw up plans for a permanent structure to replace the Snack Shack and return to the council for discussion at a later date. And finally, staff will research responses to California Coastal Commission restrictions that could hamper the city’s ability to easily construct a new structure.
The vote came after similar efforts by the Parks and Recreation Commission were hampered last year.

Parks commission Chairwoman Alicia Peak drafted a petition leading up to Monday’s meeting pushing for the city to lobby for the necessary Coastal Commission changes, which attracted 459 signatures.
