'And Just Like That,' CT Kitten Is Adopted By Sarah Jessica Parker

WESTPORT, CT — After making his television debut on “And Just Like That,” a kitten from Connecticut is now living the sweet life with his co-star Sarah Jessica Parker, who fell so in love with him during filming that she decided to adopt him as her own.

Lotus the cat, who appeared as Carrie Bradshaw’s kitten on the “Sex And The City” spinoff, came from humble beginnings, the Connecticut Humane Society told Patch in an email Thursday.

“Lotus and his littermates arrived at CHS just after Christmas last year with their mom,” said Kathryn Schubert, Marketing and Communications Manager at the Connecticut Humane Society. “The family that had them was unable to care for the whole litter and they were brought to the Connecticut Humane Society to find new homes.”

When they first arrived at the organization, Lotus and his family were very young and still needed support from staff and volunteers until they got stronger and grew old enough to be vaccinated, spayed, and neutered, Schubert said.

“While they were growing, they were cared for in foster homes, where they received round-the-clock care in a comfortable home environment,” according to Schubert.

It was in one of those foster homes that Lotus was discovered for his big break as a kitten actress.

“One of our wonderful foster families was Dorothy and Bill Berloni, who run the William Berloni Theatrical Animals company,” Schubert said. “They had reached out to see if there were any kittens here at CHS who needed a foster home and who might do well for a filming opportunity on ‘And Just Like That’ … Lotus was selected from his litter, and he lived in foster care with the Berlonis while filming; the rest is history!”

The William Berloni Theatrical Animals company has worked with the Connecticut Humane Society for almost 50 years, and “CHS was thrilled to be a part of this opportunity,” Schubert said.

By the looks of the photos Sarah Jessica Parker shared on Instagram Wednesday, Lotus is also thrilled about the turn of events that led him to a loving family and a life of luxury. In the series, Lotus is shown living his best kitten life: lounging among pink curtains, playing with toys, and dining alongside his cat siblings, fellow adoptees Rémy and Smila.

“If he looks familiar, that’s because he is,” Parker wrote alongside the photos of Lotus, referencing Lotus’ fifteen minutes of fame as a TV star. “Adopted officially by the Parker/Broderick family in April 2023.”

According to the Connecticut Humane Society, all of Lotus’ family members have also been adopted. But there are lots of other pets at the organization that are looking for a loving home of their own.

Anyone looking to add a new member to their family should take the first step at CThumane.org, Schubert said.

In addition, the public is welcome to visit pets in person in any of the organization’s three locations—Newington, Waterford, and Westport—every day starting at noon.

“It’s wonderful to be able to use [Lotus’] incredible adoption to spread the word about other pets in the shelter that could use support, whether that’s from more people adopting, or volunteering, or giving back through donations so that more pets like Lotus can get all the care they need,” Schubert said.

“It’s also very exciting to be able to share more with the community all of the incredible programs here at CHS, including adoption services, education services, and services to keep pets in homes with the people who love them.”
