FARMINGDALE, NY — The Flower Shop of Farmingdale is collecting new, unwrapped toys, for Toys for Tots on behalf of the United States Marine Corp, florist Jeanette Zimmerman-Schmidt said. The collection is currently set to end on Dec. 10.
Zimmerman-Schmidt said it means a great deal to her to collect for Toys for Tots, as her grandfather used to collect for the program before his death.
“I fondly remember going from place to place with him as a child to gather all the toys for the kids less fortunate,” Zimmerman-Schmidt told Patch. “I know I can’t do things to the magnitude he did for the Marine Corp., but I hope to be a small part of it, in his memory.”

The flower shop, located at 316 Main St., Farmingdale, is also collecting non-perishable foods for the Town of Babylon food pantry, which is in “desperate need of replenishment,” the pantry told her.
“With so many experiencing hard times due to inflation, there are shortages of food to many neighbors locally,” she said. “This is especially true with the holidays quickly approaching. Please stop in to help with whatever donation of food you’re able to give. Every little bit counts and means something tremendous to a family in need.”
