NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A flood warning is in effect for New Brunswick, Bound Brook and all the towns along the Raritan River in Middlesex County.
The flood warning will remain in effect until 7:25 a.m. Thursday, as it will take several days for all the water to drain into the river and for the river to crest.
Unfortunately, moderate flooding is forecast along the Raritan River at Bound Brook, from late Tuesday night to Thursday morning. As of 3 p.m. Tuesday the Raritan River was 19.1 feet, but the river is expected to rise above flood stage late Tuesday night, to a crest of 32 feet early Wednesday afternoon. Flood stage is 28 feet.

It will then fall below flood stage early Thursday morning.
At 28 feet, backyard and low areas are protected by levees and the flood wall. Without the levees or if there is a breach in the levees, minor flooding will occur.

At 30 feet, Main Street in Bound Brook is protected by flap valves/sluice gates. This level triggers the gate closures to protect Main Street. At 33 feet, a large portion of Bound Brook is protected by the flood-reduction project. Pump station operations become critical, at this stage, for the continued protection of the borough.
