Man Shot At Driver Who Hit His Dog In Sterling: Police

STERLING, VA — A driver hit a dog in a Sterling roadway on Wednesday night, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said. The dog’s owner fired gunshots at the driver, who left the area before police arrived.

No injuries were reported in the shooting. Authorities told Patch that the dog was not seriously injured in the crash. The dog was examined at an area veterinary hospital.

The dog’s owner, 43-year-old Steven Drew, was arrested after the shooting. He is charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

If convicted, Drew could face up to 10 years in prison, based on Virginia’s sentencing guidelines.

The shooting occurred around 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday in the 1000 block of Albemarle Road. Investigators said the dog ran into the roadway and a white vehicle hit it. The driver didn’t stop and continued driving southbound, authorities noted.

The dog’s owner, who investigators identified as Drew, fired several gunshots at the passing vehicle.

“The LCSO is asking the driver of the vehicle to come forward,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
