GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich honored longtime town attorney John Wetmore on Wednesday for his years of service, and proclaimed Jan. 31 as “John K. Wetmore Day.”
Wetmore came to Greenwich in August 1986 as an assistant to First Selectman John Margenot, where he worked on special projects and was a liaison between the Office of the First Selectman and residents, according to this proclamation, which was presented by First Selectman Fred Camillo.
He then joined the town’s law department as an assistant town attorney, and later became the Greenwich town attorney and worked in that capacity through August 2005.

For the last 18 years, Wetmore served as special counsel to the town, notably advising town land use board and commissions, and litigating administrative appeals.
The proclamation praised Wetmore for his integrity, legal acumen, institutional knowledge and sense of humor.

Camillo echoed those sentiments in comments to Patch.
“Kohn Wetmore leaves a 38-year stellar record of service to our town. Not only was he our go to guy on many issues, he went about his job with a great sense of humor, smile, and affability,” Camillo said. “That is a big part of who he is, and why he is so well-liked in our community. While I’m glad he’s hanging around in Greenwich for a little while longer, on behalf of a grateful town, I want to say thank you, John, and the best of health and happiness in all your future endeavors.”
On top of his legal career in Greenwich, Wetmore has served the community through volunteerism.
A resident of Greenwich since 1992, Wetmore was a 20-year veteran of the Glenville Volunteer Fire Company where he was vice president and a company board member. He was honored as grand marshal for the FDNY Holy Name Society at the 2018 New York St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Wetmore has plans to retire to Florida to spend more time with his family.
