New Pet Hospital To Celebrate Grand Opening In North County

ENCINITAS, CA — A new pet hospital is working to bridge the gap between general veterinary practice and emergency care.

Tell Tail Moonlight Veterinary Urgent Care, which opened in December, will celebrate its grand opening Thursday and officially unveil the facility’s evening urgent care.

“We are very happy to be in our neighborhood community, bridging the gap between general veterinary practice and emergency care,” Dr. Laura Halsey said. “We know there is a huge need to service this gap in care, complimenting general veterinary care.”

Halsey is the practice owner and medical director of the woman-owned and operated hospital, alongside Dr. Lindsey Hackett, Dr. Shannon Henry and Dr. Sharon Paz.

Hospital director Stephanie Coolidge told Patch that Hackett, an Encinitas resident who also serves as medical director, joined the business because she wanted to serve her community.

Hackett has practiced veterinary medicine in North County for 14 years. Her husband also co-owns another small pet business in Encinitas.

“After witnessing an influx of large veterinary corporate acquisitions right here in her neighborhood, she wanted to be part of a business that is truly woven in the fabric of her own community,” Coolidge said. “The pride and core of Moonlight Veterinary Urgent Care is our commitment to privately and locally owned veterinary medicine. Encinitas is a special place where local people pride themselves on supporting small businesses and their neighbors.”

Moonlight Veterinary Urgent Care aims to address the gap between general veterinary practice and 24-hour emergency specialty veterinary medicine. Working together with local veterinary offices, the hospital’s services include pet hospitalization, urgent care, ultrasound, in-house diagnostics and radiology, send out laboratory, endoscopy, surgery and specialist relationships.

“Our pets are family members, we want to be a genuine partner in ensuring your pet lives a healthy and joyful life,” Coolidge said.

The grand opening celebration will take place 4-8 p.m. at the pet hospital at 414 Encinitas Blvd. The event will include a ribbon “chewing” ceremony, clinic tours, woodfired pizza, live music and an opportunity drawing. Proceeds will benefit nonprofit Shelter to Soldier, which brings post-9/11 veterans together with trained rescue dogs.

Moonlight Veterinary Urgent Care is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. The pet hospital is closed on Saturday and Sunday.
