HOLIDAY, FL — A Pasco County man pleaded guilty this week to a felony charge in connection with his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, federal prosecutors said Thursday.
Ryan K. Yates, 37, of Holiday, pleaded guilty to one count of civil disorder, U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden announced. Yates is scheduled to be sentenced on June 12.
According to prosecutors, Yates was among thousands of people who marched to the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, to disrupt a joint session of Congress gathered to certify the 2020 presidential election results.

According to court documents, Yates entered a restricted area around the Capitol near the scaffolding set up for the upcoming presidential inauguration. Yates pushed away barricades set up to block protestors and entered the Capitol through the Senate Wing doors.
According to prosecutors, Yates then made his way to the House side of the building and gathered with a group of rioters attempting to break into the House floor. He also accessed the Capitol Rotunda and the Crypt, prosecutors said.

Court documents said as rioters rushed to get into the Rotunda, Yates worked his way to the front of the group and pushed against police. He was eventually escorted from the building where he remained on Capitol grounds for an unspecified amount of time, prosecutors said.
Yates was arrested on Sept. 26, 2023, in Tampa.
In the 37 months since Jan. 6, 2021, more than 1,313 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states. The investigation remains ongoing.
