MATTITUCK, NY — Despite some concerns expressed by students and parents over a reported incident at Mattituck High School Thursday, the situation has been resolved and classes will take place normally Friday, Superintendent of Schools Shawn Petretti said.
According to a parent who reached out to Patch, police were called to the high school Thursday after a student caused a disturbance. Rumors were swirling that he may have texted friends, saying, “Don’t come to school tomorrow,” she said.
Some students were reportedly anxious about attending classes Friday.

Petretti made a statement to Patch: “Earlier today, upon arriving to school, a Mattituck Jr./Sr. High School student became extremely upset and in need of medical attention. This was an isolated medical situation involving only one student. No threats were made to students or staff and no other students were involved,” he said.
“Thanks to our school resource officers, who were there to assist and evaluate the situation, the family was contacted, the student’s needs were properly addressed, and the student was escorted out of school for additional medical attention,” he said. “I would like to thank all those involved for maintaining a safe space for the student to receive the appropriate care and attention during a stressful time. Tomorrow, classes at the high school will be held as regularly scheduled.”
