TARRYTOWN, NY — The New York State Department of Transportation is holding a workshop Thursday to discuss possible changes to the Route 9 corridor.
The DOT is conducting preliminary engineering activities for the U.S. Route 9 Complete Streets project, which will prepare an environmental report that will propose a series of recommendations, including a preferred alternative capable of enhancing safety as well as pedestrian and bicycle facilities along Route 9.
Project limits will be from Pierson Avenue in the town of Mount Pleasant, village of Sleepy Hollow, to Tompkins Avenue in the town of Greenburgh, village of Hastings-on-Hudson.

The workshop will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. It will be held at the Tarrytown Senior Center, 240 W. Main St. in Tarrytown.
A spokesperson for the DOT told Patch that the project will enhance safety and mobility along Route 9.

“As part of the public outreach process, NYSDOT intends to seek out and incorporate input from multiple sources, including public workshops, community stakeholders, our municipal partners and their 2018 study,” she said.
The workshop will provide an opportunity to actively participate in a group exercise to provide input and ideas.
A Complete Street is a roadway planned and designed to consider the safe, convenient access and mobility of all roadway users of all ages and abilities, according to the DOT website. It includes pedestrians, bicyclists, public transportation riders and motorists as well as children, the elderly and persons with disabilities.
Complete Street roadway design features include sidewalks, lane striping, bicycle lanes, paved shoulders suitable for use by bicyclists, signage, crosswalks, pedestrian control signals, bus pull-outs, curb cuts, raised crosswalks, ramps and traffic-calming measures.
