La Provence report that Ligue 1 side Marseille have made a formal request to the local authorities to increase the number of fans they will be allowed to have in the Stade Vélodrome for their Ligue 1 season opener vs St Étienne on the 21st August, currently limited to 5,000 supporters as per the national government COVID-19 guidelines.
The latest government regulations defers to local authorities to make their own decisions in terms of how many individuals can attend major music and sporting events. Thus, OM have made a request to the local authorities to quadruple the number of supporters allowed to 20,000 – the local outlet admits that they are pessimistic about the club’s chances of achieving that.
