Superintendent Resigns From Valley View School District

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The superintendent of Valley View School District 365U will resign from the role, effective March 22, according to Board of Education documents.

Rachel Kinder “made the extremely difficult decision to prioritize personal matters and pursue new opportunities,” she wrote in her resignation letter to Board President Steve Quigley.

“It has been an absolute privilege and honor to serve the students, staff, and community of Valley View School District for nearly 17 years,” Kinder wrote. “I am grateful for the incredible opportunity that the Board of Education entrusted me with and the support that they have provided to the District during this time.”

Kinder has served Valley View since joining its staff in 2007. Her experience with the district ranges from working as a high school building administrator, teacher leader and classroom educator before she worked as assistant superintendent for grades 6-12 and assistant superintendent of educational services for preschool to 12th grade for almost a decade.

The administrator began her teaching career as a Spanish and English as a second language teacher in Joliet Township District 204, where she went to high school.

“The last four years serving as Superintendent have been extremely challenging, yet also rewarding, and I have immense gratitude and pride for all that we have been able to accomplish together,” Kinder wrote in a statement to the community. “I will forever hold a special place in my heart for the students, staff, families, and community of VVSD and I will do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition forward.”

The superintendent will continue to receive her base salary through June 30 as well as payment for 20 earned but unused vacation days and $50,000 for her “academic endeavors.”

According to documents, the Board, school district and Kinder “mutually and amicably” agreed to end their employment relationship.

“The Board of Education expresses its gratitude to Superintendent Kinder for her many years of dedication and contributions to our district,” Quigley said in a statement on behalf of the Board. “Under her guidance, and in partnership with the Board of Education, we weathered the unprecedented educational demands of a pandemic, and established a strong foundation for the continued growth and achievement of the VVSD community.”

Quigley said the Board will “immediately” begin its search for a new superintendent. District officials did not respond to Patch’s request for comment at the time of publication.
