INDIO, CA — Top three “American Idol” contestant Abi Carter of Indio arrived at her hometown before her Grand Finale show this weekend. Carter, 21, told ABC Palm Springs that she feels “where she’s meant to be,” in a recent interview.
At her last performance, Disney Night on “American Idol, Carter performed her rendition of a Fleetwood Mac song, “The Chain,” which was featured on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at that show. That performance rocketed her past competition into the final three.
The city of Indio officials shared their enthusiasm for Carter’s Hometown Heroes win.

“We can truly say that Abi Carter is the pride of Indio as she pursues her dreams on ‘American Idol,'” they shared in a social message. “We are so proud of Abi taking center stage, making the Top 3 and showing that our community is full of exceptional talent. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to vote.”

The singer arrived at her old stomping grounds to a massive parade and homecoming celebration, the station said. She spent the day retracing her life in Indio in front of cameras, but her visit was kept close to the vest ahead of the next episode.
Video from her homecoming will air on the “American Idol” finale show on Sunday, May 19, on ABC.
Carter performed a free concert at Indio’s newest entertainment venue, Center Stage! following a parade.
Center Stage was standing room only, and the public brought chairs and blankets to enjoy the show from a grass area near the event.
Fans shared their support on the city’s Facebook page.
“If Abi doesn’t win this then AI is BROKEN,” one person said. “I think most would agree – not only has Abi totally dominated this entire season, she has talent on the level of Kelly and Carrie, which is almost never seen.”
Others agreed with that sentiment.
“Being home … it’s where I’m meant to be,” Carter told ABC Palm Springs. “Even if it doesn’t keep me, I always come back to it. It’s a breath of fresh air. Hot air, for sure! But it’s a breath of fresh air.”
