ELMHURST, IL – The state has barred a downtown Elmhurst restaurant from selling alcohol because it sold alcohol for more than three months without a state liquor license, according to public records.
On March 4, an agent from the Illinois Liquor Commission showed up at Krafted Burger Bar, 111 E. First St., in response to a tip that the restaurant lacked a liquor license, according to the agent’s report.
The agent said he noticed customers sitting at a table drinking beer. A server confirmed the restaurant was selling alcohol, the report said.

The agent said a city liquor license was posted next to the bar, but the server and general manager couldn’t produce the state license.
The license had expired Nov. 30. The server’s training certification also had expired, according to the report.

The agent ordered the restaurant to stop serving alcohol. He said he would notify Elmhurst police, so they could monitor the eatery for compliance.
In its next blotter released to the media, Elmhurst police noted Krafted had an issue with the Liquor Commission. In the months since, Patch tried to obtain the commission’s report through a public records request. The agency recently released it.

In mid-May, the commission offered to settle the matter with Krafted. The restaurant could resume selling alcohol in return for paying the state $5,000.
As of Tuesday, Krafted was still not selling liquor.
In January 2023, Krafted opened locations in both Elmhurst and Bolingbrook.
A news release at the time listed the co-owner as former Jimmy John’s CEO Gregg Majewski.
Krafted did not return messages for comment left on Tuesday.
