Anthony Weber closing in on Caen move

L’Équipe report that 32-year-old Brest central defender Anthony Weber is closing in on a departure from the Brittany club.

Under contract until 2020 with SB29, Weber was going to be a free agent from June until Brest’s promotion to Ligue 1 saw his contract automatically extended by a year.

Weber was hoping for a longer deal, and two Ligue 2 clubs have offer him this. Le Havre, who are looking to replace Harold Moukoudi (moved to St Étienne) and Dénys Bain (at Brest, funnily enough), have made their interest known.

However, talks are most advanced with Normandy side Caen, who were relegated last season, with Weber having an agreement in principle with SMC over a contract length and base salary.

Brest however have no intention of allowing the player to leave for free, and fee talks are progressing arduously. Both the player and Caen want the deal to happen.
