Confusion reigns as the clock continues to run down on a Nabil Fékir to Liverpool pre-World Cup deal

Confusion is the word of the hour as the Nabil Fékir to Liverpool saga enters a critical day.

L’Équipe report this morning that there are a couple of reasons why a move to Liverpool for the France international was not confirmed, but their understanding, contrary to English sources, is not that it has anything to do with supposed medical concerns.

The French newspaper reports to have been informed of financial disagreements on the part of Nabil Fékir’s entourage, with Liverpool Chief Scout Barry Hunter understood to have arrived in Lyon yesterday in order to unblock the situation.

A fee had been agreed in principle on Thursday, but Lyon’s extraordinary denial on Friday morning is also understood to have put more of a spanner in the works rather than just simply being about the fact that the fee mentioned in the press was incorrect.

Sources contacted by Get French Football News indicate that the move from OL was a negotiating tactic, designed to reach a better agreement over bonuses.

Liverpool sources “remain optimistic” about eventually completing this deal, but admittedly, Lyon sources on their side have not been available for comment to any major French outlet in the last 48 hours.

Nabil Fékir will start from the bench tonight in France’s final World Cup warm-up match vs the USA.
