SAN RAMON, CA — Dougherty Valley High School student Aahan Sharma has started a nonprofit called Joule Junction that has given away more than 500 STEM kits for local underserved children aged 6-12.
Sharma came up with the idea for kits after witnessing the challenges underserved children have obtaining the materials needed to learn STEM. He created kits with STEM activities, and all the materials necessary to complete it, and a set of paper instructions. The kits also contain links to a YouTube video explaining the project. They include items like a Bristlebot and a 2D and 3D Shapes Activity, or the materials to make a 3D diagram of the moon.
Sharma and his team have donated the kits to a number of different charities and organizations, including foster homes, after-school programs, and at events at libraries.
