Montpellier have completed the signing of Auxerre right-back Ruben Aguilar on a free transfer after his contract with the Ligue 2 side expired.
The Frenchman had been at Auxerre since 2014 and had 92 appearances for the club including 30 in Ligue 2 this campaign. Aguilar has played almost all his career at right back, but is also able to play further up the field as a right midfielder and has even been deployed as a left back on rare occasions.
“I am very happy to join Montpellier, a club that I like very much. This is a new challenge and I look forward to my debut in Ligue 1, something that I am very much looking forward to” said Aguilar, who is quite clearly keen to show his worth on a higher stage.
Laurent Nicollin posed with Aguilar at his unveiling and said, “He is a player that we have been following for a while. He is a young player who I hope has a bright future ahead of him. He is a good youngster for the club and now it is up to him to show that he is capable, as he has done all season with Auxerre, of doing beautiful things with Montpellier.”
