Foot Mercato are reporting that Borussia Mönchengladbach forward Breel Embolo (25) is Monaco’s top target as the club look to further bolster their attacking options, having already added Takumi Minamino (27) to their arsenal.
Foot Mercato also rubbished reports in Italy, which state that Andrea Belotti (28) is set to join the Principality side on a free transfer. Embolo, who only has one-year remaining on his contract at the Bundesliga club, has decided not to active the extension clause within the contract.
As a result, the Swiss international forward could be available for as little as €10m, although Mönchengladbach could yet demand a fee of around €15m for the attacker, who made 29 league appearances for the side last season and scored 9 times.
Lyon had maintained an interest in the player, but that interest has significantly diminished since the return of Alexandre Lacazette (31) to the club.
Having scored 6 goals in his final 8 matches of last season’s Bundesliga campaign, and in search of a new challenge, Paul Mitchell sees Embolo as a great opportunity to further strengthen ahead of a long season in which the club hope to compete in the Champions League.
