BRICK, NJ — Brick Township employees will be seeing a lot more of Mayor Lisa Crate around town hall, now that she has retired from teaching.
Crate, who had been an educator in the Jackson Township Schools, confirmed her retirement to Patch over the weekend.

It was a decision made before the November election as her plan if she won election to finish out the term of John Ducey, who stepped down a year ago to become a Superior Court judge in Ocean County. Crate was appointed to his position in February.

“I made the decision prior to the election that if I won it would be time to retire so I could devote myself to the people of Brick,” Crate said. “I knew the demands of continuing to do both jobs and having time with my family would be too much, and I really want to be available and working during the day in Brick.”
Crate has been an educator for 31 years. She had worked as the librarian and media specialist at Christa McAuliffe Middle School in Jackson and was the president of the Jackson Township Education Association.

The allotted salary for mayor of Brick Township is $52,000.
