SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Friday’s night’s heavy rain and damaging winds once again sparked flooding and coastal erosion across Southampton Town.
According to Ryan Murphy, Southampton Town code compliance and emergency management administrator, “We’re unfortunately seeing some pretty significant flooding in a lot of the same places again. We have several roadway closures due to flooding.”
The Shinnecock Canal was overflowing Saturday morning; flooding was also reported, as were road closures, on Dune Road, portions of Montauk Highway in Quiogue, the Bridge Lane bridge in Westhampton, and South Country Road, Murphy said.

Once peak high tides had passed at all South Shore locations, the hope was that the water would quickly recede, Murphy said.
“The morning high tide should be our worst today, but we are likely to see at least some minor flooding again with the evening high tide in some of our most flood prone areas,” Murphy said. “Thankfully the storm had very little impact on the power grid in Southampton with the around 60 customers out during peak storm hours. We will continue to monitor and assess conditions today and tomorrow.”
