Tormented by rumours of Kylian Mbappé’s potential departure in January, Paris Saint-Germain locked horns with Benfica in a Champions League group-stage match on Tuesday evening.
Although Mbappé scored a penalty to draw the first blood in the first half, Roger Schmidt’s team came back roaring into the game, with João Mário converting his spot kick in the second half to grab the equaliser.
In the post-match chat, PSG defender Sergio Ramos was asked about the ongoing situation with Mbappé. Speaking to Canal+, the former Real Madrid captain said:
“The only thing I can tell you is that I am very good friends with Kylian. He is very happy every day. He didn’t leave last year. I don’t believe in rumours, and we are focused on our work. We don’t read the newspapers.”
After rejecting a transfer to Real Madrid last summer, Mbappé put pen to a new contract that is bound to keep the 23-year-old forward at the French capital until June 2025.
