Paris Saint-Germain locked horns with Benfica in their third group-stage match of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League.
Although the French side could not amass a win on Wednesday as the team from Portugal held onto a 1-1 scoreline, PSG sustained a couple of setbacks in the form of injuries, with full-back Nuno Mendes coming out the worst.
In the post-match press conference, PSG manager Christophe Galtier addressed Mendes’ condition, implying that the Portuguese could be on the sideline for a few weeks due to what is understood to be a muscle injury. As quoted by L’Équipe,
“Nuno has a big muscle problem. He will be out for a few games.”
Lionel Messi’s goal in the 22nd minute of the match drew the first blood. Before half-time, the own goal from Danilo Pereira prompted the equaliser for the home side. Failing to cope with the muscular issue, Mendes had to be withdrawn in the 67th minute of the game. He got replaced by former Bayern Munich full-back Juan Bernat.
