BIG BEAR, CA — Big Bear bald eagle Jackie and her mate, Shadow, will — hopefully — be parents again.
At 4:55 p.m. Thursday, the Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam captured Jackie laying her first egg of the 2024 season and watchers are anxious to see when her next might be coming.
Female bald eagles typically lay a clutch of two eggs over three to six days, and the incubation period is about 35-40 days.

Experts expect the next egg to arrive no earlier than Sunday.

Sweet words were shared Thursday night by those following the birds.
“Good night sweet mama! Good night daddy Shadow!” one viewer wrote in the cam’s comments section. “I’m so happy right now it’s like all in the world is ok now that shadow is home and we have an egg.”
Another wrote, “So very eggcited for my favorite eagle family!!”
Jackie and Shadow have bonded since 2018, according to the Friends of Big Bear Valley, which installed and maintains the cam. Eggs were laid every season since, though not all hatched. The last surviving chick was born in 2022. Believed to be a female who was affectionately named Spirit, she fledged successfully on May 31, 2022.
“Spirit stole the hearts of viewers around the world,” FBBV shared.
